Federal funding for lupus research is one of the most important ways to advance new treatments – and one day a cure – for lupus.
The Lupus Research Alliance works closely with the Congressional Lupus Caucus, led by Reps. Bill Keating (D-MA) and Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) to request robust funding levels for lupus research during the annual federal appropriations process. This is especially important because Congress cut funding for DoD medical research by $850 million (57 percent) in its recent funding law, and for the first time since 2017, failed to specify funding levels for diseases including lupus.
But now there is a great opportunity for advocates to make your voice heard!
LRA can help individual advocates contact their members of Congress to request that they sign a letter from Reps. Keating and Garbarino requesting increased funding for lupus research at the Department of Defense. This letter makes clear to the Appropriations Committee and congressional leadership that lupus research is a priority they must support!
