LRA Marathoners Honor Moms

May 5, 2022

Our team for the 2022 TCS New York City Marathon is already up and running with every spot filled and many more on a wait list.  In just a few weeks, they have already raised more than $20,000 and they’ve only just begun.  Since the Lupus Research Alliance formed Team Life Without Lupus in 2009, they have raised 1,129,542.01! Click here to cheer them on!

These four runners joined the Team for one reason – to take on the challenge in honor of the same women America will celebrate this Sunday –  moms and grandmoms! Read what they told us motivates them to run the 26.2 miles through NYC next November:

I ran with Team Life Without Lupus in the NYC Marathon in 2021, and I would love to run in 2022 for the same cause. My mother has lupus and the cause is dear to myself and my family. For that reason, the training miles come much easier.  Matt Walker

If there’s even a small part that I can play in raising funds for this cause, I would do it without question. There is no one more important to me than my mom, and I will do anything to support her and anyone who is going through something similar.  Alexis Ricciardella

I ran the 2022 Brooklyn Marathon and was inspired by the outpouring of support from friends, family and strangers. My grandmother had lupus and was one of my biggest fans, so now I’m running the New York City Marathon to help end this terrible disease. Stephen Baumgarten

My grandmother has lupus and is one of my key supporters in running the NYC marathon. Running for Lupus Research Alliance will make this entire experience much more meaningful for both of us. Kevin Griffith
